ReceipTap Terms of Service

Version 2026-08-23.1 · last updated 2026-08-23

These Terms are between J.A.C. GLOBAL APPROACH LTD. () and the business that creates a ReceipTap account ("you," "the business"). They're written for businesses, not for the individual shoppers who tap a puck to get a receipt — shoppers are covered by our Privacy Policy instead. By creating a ReceipTap account, you agree to these Terms.

Who this is for

ReceipTap is a service for businesses. It gives a business a physical NFC puck to place near their register, so their customers can tap their phone after paying and get a digital receipt instead of a paper one — along with email capture, a Google review prompt, and repeat-customer reporting for the business.

You may only create a ReceipTap account on behalf of a business, not for personal or household use. You must be at least 18 years old and authorized to agree to these Terms on that business's behalf — for example, as its owner, an officer, or someone the business has given that authority to.

Your account

The information you give us at signup — your business name, your email, your own name — needs to be accurate, and kept accurate. If something changes (your business closes, changes hands, or changes its name), update it in your account or let us know.

You're responsible for everything that happens under your account, including actions taken by anyone you give access to — staff at your register, a manager, a bookkeeper, anyone you've shared a login or device access with. Keep your login credentials to yourself, and tell us right away if you think someone's gotten into your account without permission.

The important part

Subscription and billing

ReceipTap runs on a paid subscription. Here's exactly how that works.

Starting a free trial

Starting a free trial requires a valid payment method up front. The trial length, the price, how often you're billed, and which plan you're on are exactly what's shown to you on the signup screen before you enter your card — and afterward, in your account and on every Stripe receipt. We don't repeat those specific numbers here, because they can change without needing a new version of these Terms; what doesn't change is that you'll always see them plainly before you pay anything.

If you cancel before your trial ends, you will not be charged anything.

Automatic renewal

Once your trial ends, your subscription renews automatically, on the billing interval shown to you at signup, until you cancel. Each renewal is charged to the payment method on file.

If we offer more than one plan

These Terms apply the same way no matter which ReceipTap plan you're on. Your specific plan is whichever one you selected at signup, or later switched to. If you change plans, how the switch takes effect — immediately or at your next renewal — and how any price difference for time already paid is credited or charged, is shown to you at the time you make the change.

Currency and international cards

Subscription prices are charged in US dollars. If your card is issued outside the US, your bank may convert the charge to your local currency and may charge a foreign transaction fee — that's between you and your card issuer, not something we control or receive any part of.

Taxes

Price changes

If we raise the price on your specific plan, we'll email you at least 30 days before the new price takes effect, and you can cancel any time before then to avoid it. Introducing a new plan or a different price for new customers doesn't change what you pay on your existing plan — that only changes if we give you that 30-day notice.

How to cancel

Cancel any time from the Billing page in your dashboard, which opens Stripe's secure Customer Portal for you to confirm — no need to contact us, and no phone call required.

Refunds

Your free trial is the time to decide whether ReceipTap is right for you. A payment method is required to start it, but if you cancel before it ends, you're never charged anything.

Once your trial ends and a subscription charge is made, that charge is non-refundable — including for a partial billing period. Downgrading your plan or using ReceipTap less during a billing period doesn't generate a refund or credit either.

Cancelling vs. deactivating your account

Cancelling your subscription, from the Billing page in your dashboard, stops future billing — you keep access through the end of the period you already paid for, and no prorated refund is issued for the unused remainder of it.

Deactivating your account, from Account Settings, is different: it ends your subscription and your access immediately, not at the end of your paid period, as part of closing your account entirely. Deactivating partway through a paid period doesn't produce a refund for the unused remainder either — the trial is your opportunity to decide before you're ever charged, not a right to a partial refund afterward.

Exceptions

Hardware fees — the shipping charge and the puck replacement fee described in the Hardware (NFC pucks) section — are separate from your subscription fee and aren't governed by this section.

Nothing in this section limits any right you have under applicable law that can't be waived by agreement.

Your responsibility

Your data obligations

When a customer taps a puck and saves their receipt, ReceipTap delivers them that one transactional receipt on your behalf — that part is on us. Everything beyond that is on you.

You're responsible for having a lawful basis to use the email addresses ReceipTap collects for you, and — if you want to send a customer anything beyond their receipt, like a promotion, a newsletter, or a loyalty offer — for getting their express consent first, as required by Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) or the equivalent law where your customer is (such as CAN-SPAM in the US). ReceipTap's tap-screen consent checkbox is built to capture and record that choice accurately, but deciding who to market to, and honoring anyone who said no or later unsubscribes, is your responsibility, not ours.

You agree to compensate us (this is sometimes called "indemnifying") if a claim, fine, or legal action comes against us because of how you used a customer's data — for example, if you email someone who never consented to it.

Connecting your point-of-sale system

If you connect a point-of-sale system (like Square or Clover) to ReceipTap, you're authorizing us to access it — through that provider's own connection process — to the extent needed to detect your sales and generate receipts.

That connection depends on APIs run by Square, Clover, and any other point-of-sale provider we integrate with — systems we don't control. If one of them goes down, changes how their API works, or cuts off access, your receipts may be affected, and that's not something we can guarantee against.

Hardware (NFC pucks)

One NFC puck is provided at no additional charge as part of an active subscription. Each puck is passive — it has no battery and no radio of its own — and is linked to your account through a claim code, then assigned to a specific register at your business. Additional pucks may be requested and are subject to availability.

Ownership

The puck remains the property of J.A.C. GLOBAL APPROACH LTD. at all times. It's provided to you for use with the service — ownership never transfers to you or your business, no matter how long you've been subscribed.

Returning it if you cancel

If your account is closed or terminated, we'll email a prepaid return label to the address on file for you. Every puck on your account needs to be returned within 30 days of that email.

If a puck isn't returned within that 30-day window, a replacement fee of $60 USD per unit applies, charged to the payment method on file.

Damaged, lost, or faulty pucks

A puck that's damaged or lost while your subscription is active is replaced at the same $60 USD per unit. If a puck simply fails on its own — not something you did — we replace it at no charge.

While a puck is in your possession, you're responsible for keeping it physically secure.

Shipping

You pay for shipping — a flat $25 USD charge per shipment. Shipping is charged when you order a puck, not as part of starting or renewing your subscription. We currently ship within Canada only. Delivery is expected within 30 days of your puck being sent.

Service availability

ReceipTap is an actively developed, early-stage service. We work to keep it running reliably, but we don't currently guarantee any specific uptime or availability, and the service may be unavailable from time to time — for maintenance, an issue on our end, or an issue with a third-party service we depend on.

Data and privacy

How we handle personal information — yours, and what you collect from your own customers through ReceipTap — is covered by two other documents. Both apply to your use of ReceipTap alongside these Terms.

Privacy Policy

Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect, from you and from the shoppers who tap a puck at your business, and why. We won't repeat that here.

Data Processing Agreement

Our Data Processing Agreement is incorporated into, and forms part of, these Terms — by accepting these Terms, you're also agreeing to the DPA, even though it's published at its own page. The DPA governs how we process personal data belonging to your own customers: you're the controller of that data (you decide why it's collected and what it's used for), and we're the processor, handling it only on your instructions.

The DPA is versioned separately from these Terms, because it can need to change on its own schedule — most commonly if we add, replace, or drop a subprocessor. When that happens, we'll update the DPA and give you notice, and its version number moves forward on its own, independent of these Terms.

Termination

You can close your account at any time from your dashboard. We may suspend or end your account if you breach these Terms, or if payment fails and isn't resolved — we'll give you notice and a chance to fix it first, except where we reasonably believe waiting would cause harm (for example, a security issue).

Simply canceling your subscription doesn't delete anything — your account and data stay exactly as they are, you just lose access to the dashboard once your paid period ends. Closing your account entirely is a separate, deliberate step, and it's what starts the clock: our policy is to keep your business data for 90 days afterward, in case you want to come back, and then delete your sales records, your customers' consent records, your loyalty program data, and your receipt design — and anonymize what's left of your account. Records proving you accepted our Terms, Privacy Policy, and Data Processing Agreement are the one exception — we keep those permanently, as our own compliance record, even after your account is closed.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows it, neither of us is responsible to the other for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages — things like lost profits or lost data — arising from these Terms or your use of ReceipTap.

To the extent the law allows it, our total liability to you for any claim relating to ReceipTap is capped at the total subscription fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose.

Changes to these Terms

When we make a real change to these Terms, we publish the new version here and update the "last updated" date at the top. If you have an account, the next time you visit your dashboard after a real change, you'll be asked to review and accept the new version before continuing — this happens automatically, it isn't something we do by hand.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Ontario, Canada, and any dispute arising from them will be handled by the courts there.
